INFORMATION ABOUT THE GERMAN SOCIETY FOR ANIMAL PRODUCTION E.V. (DGFZ)
Since the foundation in the year 1905, the German Society for Animal Production e.V. (DGfZ) is a non-profit association, which is conducive, after the articles of association it works in a close collaboration together with animal breeding and veterinary medicine, to the progress in different sections like animal breeding, production and nutrition as well as animal health.
The elements of the society are the steering committee and the general assembly. For professional assistance, an advisory board will be appointed by the steering committee.
The society represents the intermediary between science, administration and practice as well as between the scientific disciplines. In the following the different fields of work of the DGfZ will be described:
• Consolidation of experts in form of task forces, which are dealing with current and future topics in animal production. The outputs will be published in form of recommendations, comments or presentations.
• Publication of the learned journal “Züchtungskunde”, which contains publications in German language from different institutions of animal production.
• Organisation of scientific conferences. The presentations will be published in the journal “Schriftenreihe” (in form of a conference transcript).
• Combined organisation of the annual conference “About the Work of the Departments for Animal Production” with the German Society for Animal Science (GfT).
• Research fellowships for young scientists.
The German Society for Animal Production e.V. (DGfZ) is the official representative of the Federal Republic of Germany in the “European Association for Animal Production” (EAAP). In this function, the DGfZ denominates the German representatives of the scientific committees in the EAAP.
The members of the DGfZ are:
• Animal breeders
• Veterinaries
• Scientists
• Civil servants of the federal and provincial government (departments of veterinary and animal production)
• Animal production organisations
• Research faculties
• Practitioners
• Students

Persons, who are committed in national or international animal breeding, could be-by a decision of the chairmanship of the society- medalled by the “Hermann-von-Nathusius-Medaille, the “Adolf-Köppe-Nadel” or the honorary membership.
The society is financially supported by the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV) and the accordant provincial ministries.
